On tour: Das Möbel, Vienna

From playground of the creative scene to one of the most important exhibition spaces for current furniture designers from Austria: 16 years ago Das Möbel opened as café and first concept store of Vienna along the lines of ‘eating, drinking and examining furniture’. Since then Lothar Trierenberg and his team offer interested parties the opportunity to experience new design in use.

Originally prioritizing design ‘Made in Austria’, the range has since expanded and so nowadays the shop on Gumpendorferstrasse also features furniture from Germany, the Czech Republic and other Central European countries:

Anonymously mass-produced goods from the Far East, however, must remain outside. In addition to solely exhibiting quality goods, Lothar Trierenberg puts emphasis on the direct exchange with his designers and suppliers in order to understand their personalities as well as their furniture.

Since his customers – most of them repeat buyers – want to know exactly what it is they’re acquiring and optionally attach amendments.

Transparency and functionality also determine the layout of the exhibition space. Thus, Das Möbel is devided in a living room, a bedroom, a dining room, a kitchen, a bathroom and an outdoor area.
